Wairarapa Two-Day-Match, November 15 and 29

The Wairarapa Times-Age very kindly gave us this photo. It is of the chaps who played the first game of the Wairarapa Two-Day-Match on November 15 at Carterton School. Games three and four are on Saturday November 29.

Please remember our regular club meeting has been moved and will be held with the second day of the Two-Day-Match at Carterton School. All are welcome - all rules, all periods, all scales. There will be no meeting on November 30.

Next meeting Saturday November 29 at Carterton School

There is a change to the next club meeting, it will be held along with the second day of the Wairarapa Two-Day-Match, at Carterton School, Holloway Street, on Saturday November 29. All gamers and visitors are most welcome :-)

The story below is about the Two-Day-Match and it gives an idea of what will be happening. There will be plenty of room for other gaming and it will be a great opportunity to catch up with gamers from Wellington, the Hutt Valley and Palmerston North.

Come along and play a game - any period, any scale, any rules - or just drop in to talk toy soldiers.

Please note: Google is wrong! Google maps shows Carterton School halfway along Holloway Street. It is actually at the end of that street. Also, if you are travelling North up High Street, Carterton, which is State Highway 2, you cannot turn right into Holloway Street. Instead, continue another 100 meters or so to the roundabout, turn 180 degrees, drive South to Holloway and turn left.

Wairarapa Two-Day-Match, November 15 and 29

Here are a few pictures from the Wairarapa Two-Day-Match. This is an ancient and medieval tournament being played at Carterton School. I hope to make it an annual event. Everyone is welcome to come along and check out the fun on November 29 - Vince.

Mim and I went looking for a trophy for this weekend and Mim spotted this as soon as we walked in the store. Handsome fellow isn't he! I will have a plinth made for the trophy to sit on and for each winners name can be recorded on a little plaque.

My first opponent, Richard. Great to see him make it as he is afflicted with a leg injury.

Some of the infantry from Scott's "Sub-Roman British" army. I love that name! The army is modeled on the Christian armies in Britain after Constantine had taken the legions back to Europe to fight, and win, a civil war.

 Philip Gates (left) really cannot believe what his opponent, Gary, is trying. Alastair is no doubt offering "helpful"advice. Many of the guys had met for the "big breakfast" at the Corner Cafe in Greytown, run by Phil and his wife Miriam

Some of Phil's brand new French Ordonnance knights. Today was his army's first outing. Their first opponent was War of the Roses English. Taunting was called for: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Allen, who very kindly brought some extra tables from over the hills and far away. The school hall did not have quite enough tables so the Hutt Valley Wargaming Club let us borrow a few of theirs

Andrew knows it is in the rules, somewhere. He and John Z. played a Roman civil war.

David( left), coming to terms with a set of rules he has not used before, playing Peter who is top of the table after today's games. This game pitted David's Marian Romans against Peter's Ptolemaic Egyptians, vying for the hand of Cleopatra.
