July 27 meeting

With snow on the mountains and a southerly with rain in town, we had a smaller meeting with, I suspect many opting for the warmth of the fire at home. Two tables were used, one for Apocalypse and the other Ancients.

Neil brought along his copy of
Apocalypse, a simple game of the lead up to a possible nuclear war in Europe. Peter and Ross joined in.

Vince brought along several Ancient armies for the quick play rules DBA 3. Neither he nor Warren had played this, the latest version of the rules before, but they played two games with each taking about one hour. Rex and Craig are watching. DBA 3 is available as a free download from http://www.wrg.me.uk/DBA.pdf

Winter Cup win reported in today's Times-Age

Hi all

This story is in this morning's paper. I have not seen the printed version yet. I had asked the reporter to include a club contact. If he didn't, I will write a letter to the editor thanking them for the story and including a club contact.

Wairarapa Wargamers win at Winter Cup. Yes!

Wairarapa Wargamer David Kinzett (left) has won the Hutt Valley Wargaming Club's Winter Cup. The Winter Cup is an Ancient and Medieval tournament played over two Saturdays.

Phil Gates (right), who literally lives across the road from David in Greytown, was third and also won the medal for sacking the most baggage. Vince Cholewa played only on the second Saturday.

A big thank you to Allen Yaxley and the Hutt Club for organising the event.

David manoeuvring his Anglo Danes against a Low Countries army (Flemish).

Phil deep in thought having deployed his Mithridatic army. Mithridates was king of Pontus, on the southern coast of the Black Sea in the 1st century BC.

All the trophies, including the "coveted"Turkey.

All the chaps who played in the Winter Cup: Phil, Craig, Paul, Doug, David M. (who happened to be visiting from Auckland and took the opportunity to catch up with old friends and play some toy soldiers), John van den H., Vince, Mark, Shane (with pie ;-), Alastair (obscured), Gary, David, John C., and Allen.

Winter Cup - Come back with your shields or on them!

Tomorrow, three Wairarapa wargamers are heading over the hills to the Hutt Valley Wargaming Club's Winter Cup. It will be the second day of an annual Ancient tournament played over two Saturdays.

After the first Saturday, David Kinzett with the mighty Anglo Danes is leading on 40 points out of a possible 50. Phil Gates (Mithridatic) is on 34 points. Vince, who did not play previously, is on 0 points and is bringing his Early Imperial Romans tomorrow.

Wish us luck ;-)
