April Games Day Photos

The last Games Day went pretty well, with the usual suspects turning up. Sion and Neill managed a whopping five hour game between the Orcs (Sion) and Neils Marauder Horde, with a victory for Neill. There were a couple of other games, and here are a few photos from the day:

Here's Jake with one of Toms Warp Engineers - painted up in a frenzy at the end of the day!

session.

Now that I've got a camera, I hope to post photos from each games day! Anyway, rock on, and may your dice always roll 6's. Except for your Ld.

May News - Games now twice a month!

Games Day 27th February

Well, as the title says, we're back! Games day this Sunday from 1pm at the Masterton Croquet Clubhouse, next to the Miniputt in Queen Elizabeth Park.

We'll be playing Warhammer, 1500 pts, with random missions and opponents, but all wargamers are welcome - bring your army and I'm sure you will be able to find someone there to game with. This will be a regular occurence now, the fourth Sunday of each month, so mark it on your calendars boys and girls!

For the first meeting there will be a charge of $2 per player. We will also be discussing (for anyone interested) putting the club on a more formal footing - having named officers and splitting the responsibility of organising the games days and general club business. This will hopefully avoid long breaks between games (like the previous one! You guys really don't want to know the arse year I have had!)

Future plans for the club I would like to discuss include expanding to include Warhammer 40000 as a regular game, as well as Warmachine. So, I would love to see you all there, as always direct any questions or queries to masterton.marauders@gmail.com or give me a call on 0226916511

August Newsletter

MASTERTON MARAUDERS AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Hey guys (and girls), remember me?  Don’t worry, the Marauders haven’t slunk off anywhere, I’ve just been super busy over the last couple of months (work, helping out mates, family going into hospital, just the usual stuff), so I haven’t really had time to bash out the newsletter, or organise a games day.

I’m sending this one here out, mainly, to let you all know that I’m still driving the club, and there will be a games day in September, and I intend there to be at least one a month for the foreseeable future.

First up, the big news:  Masterton has finally got a Games Workshop stockist!  The new Toyworld in town has got in a small selection of boxed models, almost all of the paints, superglue, etc.  This is great news for all of us who were getting a bit pissed about having to drive 2 hours just to replace that old tin of Chaos Black!  They are also more than happy to order in anything that you want - just go in and talk to them!  So shop local, guys!

I also need you all to reply, please, with your contact details, games and armies you play.  I’ve had one or two people enquiring about 40k and also Warmachine and Historical wargames.  We’ve got about 12 people now who play Warhammer, and I’m happy to organise days for the other games as well - I just need to know how many people would be interested in it.

Speaking of Warhammer, I also need to know how many of you have, or have access to the new 8th Edition rulebook - I would like the club to start playing with the new rules, but if we don’t have a few of the books floating around life will be a bit difficult!

Look forward to hearing from you guys,

James

First Marauders Meeting

Well folks, it's been a while coming, but here is the report on our first meeting - damn life, just keeps getting in the way of my wargaming!

Anyway, onto the battles:
The first group of battles were between Neil (Orcs and Goblins) and Raynor (Wood Elves) on one table and Callum (Empire) versus Jake (Dwarves) on the second.
The first game ended in a decisive victory for Neil - the Orcs broke Raynors right flank on the second turn and then rolled up the Wood Elves line despite some spirited defense. Raynors Waywatchers fired a last volley into the Orc ranks as they quit the field in the face of the Orc juggernaut.
On table 2, Jakes gun-line faced up to a nicely balanced Empire force led by Callum. The first 2 turns were some brutal carnage on both sides as Jakes 3(!) cannons and huge amounts of handguns cut down the brave men of the Empire, but sadly once the humans reached the line the stunties had quite a hard time of it. In one of the greatest moments I have seen in a game of Warhammer, Jakes cannon caught Callums knights in the flank, chopping them in a dazzling display of marksmanship, with Callums general only surviving by heroically shielding himself behind the corpses of his men (it wasn't for long though, as he got nailed by another cannon later in the game.
Round 1 had a win for Neil, and a win for Callum.

Round 2 had Jake facing Raynor and Callums Empire lining their guns up on there hereditary enemies - Neils Orcs. Raynor stymied Jake quite early in the piece by planting his extra forest in such a way that his Wardancers and Dryads had an almost uninterrupted run up the side of the board, whereupon (despite some spirited resistance from the Dwarfs) they were able to roll up Jakes line, taking out the doughty clansdwarfs and sending them to their ancestors.
On the other table, the Orcs appeared cowed by the awesome amount of firepower bought to bear by the Empire, advancing slowly and arguing amongst each other - however the two sides clashed eventually, leading to a narrow victory for Neil.

So, congratulations are in order for Neil and his Orc horde, taking home the trophy in the inaugural meeting of the Masterton Marauders!

What the Marauders is about

Well, I've been gaming for a few years now and I've found it's quite difficult to find new opponents in small places like the Wairarapa - there's no model/gaming shops in the area, so there's not really anywhere for people like us to congregate and get to know each other.

That's why I've started the Masterton Marauders.

My aim is to create a virtual place where we can meet other gamers, chat, and organise gaming nights, small tournaments, and just meet other people who enjoy the same hobby as you. I'm trying to be as inclusive as possible - whether you play the Games Workshop systems, Privateer Press, Historical or if you're into D&D, White Wolf games - we would like to hear from you, because rest assured, there are other gamers in Masterton and the Greater Wairarapa who would love to you!

I've also created a Facebook group, so if you're group has ANYTHING coming up, whether it's a Warmachine battle, Romans vs Persians, or you need a fifth person for your upcoming dungeon bash in the Forgotten Realms, post some details in the comments here, or become a fan on Facebook.

Remember, gaming is as much about other people as anything, so if you don't do anything about it, don't complain when there's no-one left to game with!
