Club meeting Sunday October 12

Four tables were being used at the club meeting yesterday: two World War 2 games, Ancients and Dystopian Wars. Craig brought along his partly finished Marlburian British army, and  David and Gary also dropped in to see what was happening and arrange games for the next meeting.

Neil (Japanese) and Rex (British and USA) played Avalon Hill's classic strategy game, Victory in the Pacific.
Ross (Republique d'France) and Craig (Federated States of America) played Dystopian Wars. Craig's cunning plan was to spring a totally aerial force on Ross. Measuring range ...
... short!

John Chruchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough

Dragoons

Warren (Germans) played James (British) in a late war game of Flames of War.

Vince (Thracians) played Andrew (Late Imperial Romans)

Andrew deep in thought as the games reaches a key point.

Club Meeting Review 31st August - Biplanes and Boardgames!

Good turnout at the club last weekend.  Craig bought his (frankly staggering) collection of Wings of War and Wings of Glory, and he and Rex battled it out over the Western Front in World War 1.  Neil bought several boardgames, and after some debate Neil, James, Peter and Ross played Fate of Nations - a boardgame set in the Middle East with a pretty nifty theme.  Players compete to put their own leaders in charge of fictional, oil-producing countries, overthrowing others and making money to fund regime changes in other countries on the board.  A good time was had by all!

Marauders at Call to Arms, 16-17 August 2014

Six Marauders made the trip over the hills at the weekend, responding to the Wellington Warlords annual Call to Arms. We were: (back) Simon, Vince, Phil. (Front) Neil, Warren, Peter.
Here is a sample of some of the games being played and models being used. There was lots more on too.

A view of the hall at St Patrick's College, Wellington.
Three pics above from a game somewhere in Egypt, inspired by Indiana Jones.

And these two are obviously from somewhere in Japan.

There was a big Napoleonic game, modeled on Leipzig.

There was a 25mm Ancients competition - these pics are from Andrew Bennetts' (Auckland) Breton army. Vince did not win :-(
Gorgeous Warmachine models.

A big Dystopian Wars game.
And the guys in action ;-)
Phil deep in thought.

Simon recovering from Saturday night.

Peter - confident.
Warren mate, you need glasses!

Neil wondering what the hell is that?!
Not Vince but, instead, part of his Early Imperial Roman army. Ave Caesar!

August 10 meeting

Two tables were being used today, one for Napoleonics and the other for Ancients. It was great to see new faces coming along, Aarron who is into World War 2 and Napoleonics and his friend, Andy. Aarron is keen to come along and play. Oh, and Ross made a new friend.

Club President James playing 25mm Ancients with Vince. They used WRG's almost published DBA v.3 rules. After years of development the third edition must be nearly finished.  This game was a historical between two of the successors to Alexander the Great, Ptolemaic (based in Egypt) and Seleucid (based in Palestine, Syria and Persia).

Rex and Craig played Napoleonics using the Hordes of the Things (HoTT) rules. HoTT are actually quick play, fantasy and science fiction rules but they have been used successfully for several different periods.

Ross met Violet, who is the best kind of girl. She thinks it is cool when boys say, "I paint toy soldiers, roll dice, and say 'your're dead!'."

Cracks Call Tournament!

Alright folks, our very own Neil Williamson is running an awesome sounding Warhammer Fantasy tourney at the end of September.  Registration ends in the next couple of days, but's it's taken me a few days to work out how to actually let other people see the flyer, so I'm sure Neil will let some late registers in if you ask nicely!  Check out the link to our Google Drive to see the details:
